Welcome to chromakate! My name is Kate and I love all things colorful and crafty.  I am an avid knitter and intermediate sewist, among other things.  I met my husband Gavin when we were seniors studying engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and we married in April 2012.  I’ve lived all over the midwest but moved to St. Louis when we married and love it here. Other places I’ve called home include Kansas City, Dallas, Des Moines, and Madison.

We bought our 1940 house in 2013 and are slowly redecorating and fixing it up on our budget.  I love our hardwood floors, archways, woodwork, windows, and yellow-tiled half bathroom.  I don’t love having to fix things that are old and dealing with previous owners’ poor choices. We are working hard to pay off our house as quickly as we can and can’t wait to be mortgage-free.

I taught myself to knit when I was eleven or twelve years old. I still remember the first tiny square I managed to make, along with the first cable swatch I made. (While babysitting and while doing laundry, respectively.)  My latest challenge is getting started as a knit designer.

I got my own sewing machine for Christmas when I was thirteen and have toted it all around, from my parents’ house to my college dorm room to my first apartment.  I’m no expert but love to make things, especially for around the house, and am hoping to improve my skills in coming years.

My husband and I are Catholic and love it. I work part-time as an engineer doing statistics work and reporting for a call center and part-time as a youth minister at our parish.
